Norway names envoy

COLOMBO: Norway on Friday announced the appointment of Jon Hanssen-Bauer as the Special Envoy for the Sri Lankan peace process. Mr. Hanssen-Bauer, known for his work in the West Asia peace process, would report to International Development Minister Erik Solheim. Mr. Solheim, who has been involved as facilitator since the inception of the Norwegian role in the late 1990s, would "lead the work, visit Sri Lanka regularly and be responsible for Norway's role as facilitator of the peace process," the Foreign Affairs Ministry said. Oslo's envoy to Sri Lanka Hans Brattskar will continue to be "the parties' day-to-day contact in Sri Lanka."
