News Analysis
In "Election Commission shifts city police chief" (Tamil Nadu, March 16, 2006, page 1), Mr. A. Raja, who complained to the Election Commission, is Union Minister of Environment and Forests, and not Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests, as we said. A problem with the designation again. "The Jammu and Kashmir, Lt. Governor (retd.) S.K. Sinha, PVSM ... ", said the news item "OTA passing-out parade" ("Briefly", Tamil Nadu, March 14, 2006, page 6). He is the Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt. General (retd.) S.K. Sinha, PVSM. An avid cricket fan points out that in the AFP report on the Australia versus South Africa Test at Cape Town (Sport, "Clark restricts South Africa", March 17, 2006), the text mentions opening bowler Brett Lee having taken two wickets, while the scoreboard credits him with one more to his haul. The scoreboard (3 wickets) is right. In the same issue, the text of the compilation "Dravid fact file", mentions India having won a Test Down Under, in 2003-2004 after 13 years ("Memorable performance"). It was in fact after 23 years, the previous victory being at Melbourne on the 1980-81 tour. A trio never fielded! England's three spinners, said the Geoffrey Boycott piece in "Kumble factor proved decisive" (Sport, March 14, 2006). This error, in the earlier editions, was later rectified to read "three seamers".
