KOLLAM: The noted critic Sukumar Azhikode on Friday said that both the UDF and the LDF had become an asylum for political opportunists. He was delivering a lecture on `Coalition politics and Kerala' at a programme organised by the Kollam Press Club. Prof. Azhikode said coalition politics in Kerala had entered a phase where anybody who gets an opportunity can join any front. Both the fronts had vitiated the essence of coalition politics. The only noteworthy change from this system was the recent emphatic `no' by the LDF to the DIC(K). "It was a bold step," he said. Prof. Azhikode said opportunism was the worst `ism' and the DIC(K) had no qualms in adopting it. When the LDF closed its door on the DIC(K), the party lost no time in rushing to the UDF, forgetting the fact that it had unleashed a series of diatribes against the UDF. He termed the DIC(K) as an embodiment of depoliticisation.
