ONGOLE: Nicknet will provide e-Panchayat online service in 475 villages to enable farmers access international market for their produce. Addressing a meeting convened here on Friday to create awareness over the service, C.S.R. Prabhu, Deputy Director General of Nicknet, said that 20 villages have been selected in Prakasam district and they would be provided the service by April-end. Mr. Prabhu said e-Panchayat would provide as many as 1,000 rural technologies - including desalination of brackish water, oil extraction etc. The website would provide information on prevailing prices of different agricultural commodities in different countries.

Farmers can export their produce to different countries making use of the information. B.M. Rao, technical director of Nicknet, said the Panchayat Raj department and Nicknet are making joint efforts to make e-Governance available to all citizens. He said e-Panchayats are now working in 40 villages in the State. People can pay property tax, register births and deaths, and get information on developmental works in villages. Sarpanches, panchayat secretaries attended the meeting.
