A wall of Ripon Buildings being cleared of grafftti.
CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation on Friday started removing political graffiti, poster and hoardings on public buildings in accordance with the model code of conduct. The drive will continue till all public buildings are cleared of election campaign. The civic agency also videographed walls that were whitewashed on Friday and will soon charge the bill on candidates contesting in the Assembly election. "The video has been taken as a proof, so that the parties cannot contest the bills that will be forwarded to them," an official said. At present, the Corporation is concentrating on government buildings. Political parties are allowed to use walls of private buildings after taking permission from owners. If a private wall space is taken over forcibly, the owner can complain to the police. Pulianthope zone officials supervised whitewashing of the western wall of Ripon Building where the ruling AIADMK men had put up a huge graffiti outlining the achievements of the party over the past five years.
