GULBARGA: Members of the district unit of the Karnataka State Village Accountants Association on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the Gulbarga tahsildar's office in protest against the alleged assault of one of their colleagues at Kurikota village in Gulbarga taluk. Village accountant Mallari Rao was allegedly assaulted on Thursday during the inspection and assessment of the damage caused by hailstorm and rain in the district on March 9.
Procession
Village accountants, who came in a procession to the tahsildar's office in the city, demanded protection to village accountants while discharging their duties and stringent penal action against the person responsible. In a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner and submitted to tahsildar Sultan Mohammed, the association said that Mr. Rao was beaten up by Mahesh Sahu during the joint survey and assessment of crop damage. Other officials from the Agriculture Department were threatened. The memorandum sought adequate protection to the staff involved in the crop damage survey and assessment in the district.
