Recruitment of qualified persons will improve police image: DGP

  • First batch of 355 constables pass out of the Naganalli Police Training College
  • Persons with good educational background preferred for the posts of police constable



    MAKING A PROMISE: The first batch of police constables of the Nagannalli Police Training College taking oath at the passing-out parade in Gulbarga on Friday.

    GULBARGA: K.R. Srinivasan, Director-General of Police (COD, Training and Economic Offences), said on Friday that the Police Department has taken the right step in improving police-public relation and creating a mutual confidence in the system by recruiting qualified people.

    Speaking after inspecting the passing-out parade of the first batch of 355 police constables at the Naganalli Police Training College on the outskirts of the city, Mr. Srinivasan said many constables in the batch are postgraduates. The department now prefers persons with good educational background for the post of constables, mainly to bring in a change in the attitude of police personnel who deal with the public.

    He said such qualified constables will help officers in investigations with their knowledge and experience.

    On the need for improving police-public relation, he said it cannot be achieved over night and everybody in the department should strive to instil confidence in the public about the effectiveness of police.

    He said the training process for police personnel has undergone changes to meet the challenges from various quarters, including extremists and terrorists. The role of police constables is vital in maintaining law and order.

    Mr. Srinivasan gave away the overall shield to K.V. Sridhar, a constable from Kolar district for excelling in indoor and outdoor competitions. He presented the first prize in indoor event to Mallappa Guruwannavar of Hubli-Dharwad Commissionerate, second prize to Chennabasappa Kambalimath (Hubli-Dharwad Commissionerate), and the third prize to Mahantesh Katti (Hubli-Dharwad Commissionerate). In the outdoor competition, Mr. Sridhar (Kolar) bagged the first prize. Chandru Pujar of Hubli-Dharwad Commissionerate and R.G. Ravindra of Kolar bagged the second and third prizes, respectively. Principal of the college Anand V. Ayachut welcomed the gathering. Deputy Superintendent of Police Cheluvadi proposed a vote of thanks.
