Plea to Chief Minister on cruelty to animals

CHENNAI:
The Bharathiya Prani Mithra Sangh has appealed to the Chief Minister to initiate stringent action against those inflicting cruelty on animals at temple festivals such as the incident recently reported from Rasipuram in Namakkal district.
In a communication on Thursday, Sangh president M.B. Nirmal cited a report in The Hindu pertaining to cattle being forced to walk on fire at a temple in the district. "All these animals have suffered serious burns and traumatised," he said, calling for an end to such inhuman acts.
Stringent action, he said, should be taken against those who organised the festival, the temple authorities and the cattle owners. He said all the animals which were forced to walk on fire should be rescued.
