Coimbatore: Accusing former President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), L.K. Advani of betraying the Hindu community when his party was in power, the International President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Ashok Singhal, has observed that it could never win their confidence. He was talking to reporters on Friday on his way to Erode for participating in the State Hindu Resurgence Conference scheduled to begin on Saturday. Mr. Singhal said that while BJP could mobilise crowd for the proposed yatra by Mr. Advani it did not mean that the majority community was supporting the party. The BJP could have fulfilled the "Hindu agenda" when it was in power rather than keeping it in the backburner.
Suggests measures
For regaining the confidence of the Hindu Community, Mr.Singhal suggested that the BJP could implement various measures in five States (where it was ruling) including ban on cow slaughter and conversion, introduce uniform civil code and grant the much required autonomy to temples rather than they remaining in the clutches of a Government agency. With "Jehadis" on the prowl carrying on their terrorist activities and conversions at its peak in North Eastern States, Mr.Singhal warned the Government not to allow a repeat of Gujarat communal flare-up.
"Appeasing minorities"
Blaming the Governments of adopting an appeasement policy with regard to minorities, he said that it had gone to an extent of head counts in Defence. He said that a day would come when political parties would have to appease the majority.
