Srikakulam
Special Correspondent
Srikakulam: District Collector A.Koteswara Rao on Friday instructed officials concerned to see that the construction of houses taken up under various schemes like Indira Awas Yojna, Rajiv Gruhakalpa, tsunami, Valmiki and Ambedkar Awas Yojna (VAMBAY) were completed on time. There should be no delay in the release of funds to the beneficiaries, he said, adding that there should be no release of funds for those who had not grounded the work. Reviewing the progress of various housing schemes in the office with the officials concerned, Mr.Koteswara Rao said that assistant engineers of the Housing Department would be held responsible for any lapse in the execution of the scheme. In the Assembly segments of Srikakulam and Etcherla, a large number of houses were yet to be grounded. In the rural areas many houses remained incomplete. The Collector wanted officials to focus on these aspects.
Deadline fixed
In all, 46,000 houses had been sanctioned under various housing schemes in the district. So far, the construction of 28,000 houses had been completed and 15,000 houses were in various stages of completion, the meeting was informed. The Collector wanted the remaining houses to be grounded before the end of March. The execution of the Rajiv Gruhakalpa programme in Srikakulam was entrusted to contractors. Other schemes like VAMBAY were being executed departmentally. Houses under the Indiramma programme should be constructed on the sites already acquired, Mr.Rao said. District Manager of housing programme, Ravikumar and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
`Rythu chaitanya yatras'
The district administration will organise `Rythu chaitanya yatras' in all the villages of the district from April 2 to 20. Formulating necessary plans, encouraging farmers to go in for modern methods, need to fix capacitors and foot valves to pumpsets, etc are some of the issues over which officials concerned will concentrate during the chaitanya yatras.
