TIRUNELVELI: Over a lakh devotees witnessed the mahakumbhabhishekam of Sri Kasi Viswanathar - Sri Ulaganayaki Temple, Tenkasi, on Friday. After the early morning rituals, the mahakumbhabhishekam of `Raja Gopuram' and other vimaanaas was performed at 12.01 p.m. by Selvan Bhattar of Tuticorin and Raja Bhattar of Thirupparankundram. `Maha abhishekam' and `deepaaraadhanai' were performed at 2 p.m., which were followed by `thirukkalyaanam' and `veethi ulaa' in the evening. The renovations committee, headed by B. Sivanthi Adityan, Director, Daily Thanthi, has completed the exercise at an outlay of Rs. 1 crore.
Security arrangements
The police made elaborate security arrangements throughout Tenkasi. Traffic regulations and diversions ensured free movement of vehicles. Medical teams were posted at several places. The district administration declared local holiday.
Special buses
Special buses were operated from various parts of the district to Tenkasi. The Secretary, Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment, P.A. Ramaiah; the Commissioner, HR and CE, T. Mahakumbhabhishekam was also performed at Sri Kailaasanathar - Sivakami Ambal temple at Kodaganallur, near here, on Friday.
