DUTA supports Shivaji College staff

NEW DELHI: The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) on Thursday staged a dharna at Shivaji College in support of the college teachers and karamcharis who boycotted examinations in protest against the authorities' failure to set up an impartial judicial enquiry into allegations of financial irregularities, harassment of teaching and non-teaching staff and vitiation of the academic environment.

The DUTA Executive had on Monday endorsed the Shivaji College Teachers' Association decision to boycott examinations after having drawn the attention of the Governing Body, University authorities and the Delhi Government to "academic, financial and administrative collapse in the college".

Talk show on Budget

NEW DELHI: A talk show on Union Budget-2006 was organised at Ishan Institute of Management and Technology in neighbouring Greater Noida earlier this week. It was attended by management and technology students, teachers and many eminent persons from industry.

The main objective of the show was to enlighten the students about the different aspects of the Budget.

Conference on health

NEW DELHI: The third national conference on "Health Reforms and Social Sciences -- Challenges Ahead" organised by the National Institute of Health and Social Sciences began here on Thursday.

The three-day conference will see presentation of papers on "Health Situation in India: Present State and Future Prospects", "Health Reforms and Millennium Development Goals", "Reproductive and Child Health", "Adolescent Health/Sexual Health, HIV/AIDS" and "Care of the Elderly and Foeticide: Demographic and Social Implications".

CBI probe sought

NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Subhash Arya, and MCD Standing Committee member Vijender Gupta have urged the Lieutenant-Governor to order an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into alleged violation of rules in allotment and construction of the Ghazipur slaughter house.

In a statement, they said that the Chief Technical Examiner had already been requested to examine the tendering process and the work being executed at the slaughter house.

Protest rally by traders

NEW DELHI: Traders in the Capital took out a slow-run motor car protest rally and staged a dharna at Karol Bagh demanding that the Government take immediate steps to save the livelihood of lakhs of traders.

The Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT) that is spearheading the agitation has sought intervention of President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in the matter.
