KADAPA: Sri Venkateswara University Vice-Chancellor S. Jayarama Reddy on Friday hoped that KSRM College of the University would secure deemed university status by churning out qualitative engineers. Speaking at `Scintillations', a national-level sports and cultural meet as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of KSRM College of Engineering here, he said professional colleges must churn out qualitative engineers to hasten economic and social progress of the country. India was rapidly progressing in information technology and was producing the second largest number of engineers in the world, he said. India was known as a centre of knowledge for ages and ancient monuments such as Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar gave recognition to the country's engineering skills, the Vice-Chancellor observed. The college had been imparting quality education and imbuing discipline in Rayalaseema region, besides promoting work culture and values, he asserted.
Model colleges
SVU recognised KSRM College of Engineering at Kadapa and SBKR College at Vidyanagar as models of progress and development, Prof. Jayarama Reddy stated. He complimented the college for providing basic infrastructure, computer centres and laboratories, he said. He called upon students to strive hard to make a mark in the competitive world. KSRM student Prasad stood first in GATE, getting credit for Kadapa district, Collector G. Asok Kumar said.
Cash award
Former Minister R. Rajagopala Reddy recalled the contribution of previous principal C.S. Reddy. College Principal K.S.N. Reddy gave an overview of the college's progress. Correspondent of the College and former MLA K. Sivananda Reddy said the college was being run to churn out model students and never adopted a commercial approach.New facilities would be provided with Rs. 2 crores during the silver jubilee year, he said. He announced financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 to Mr. Prasad, who secured first rank in GATE and Rayalaseema Educational Institutions correspondent Rami Reddy announced aid of Rs. 25,000 to the student. College Chairman S. Sankar Reddy, Prof. Muralikrishna, BSNL General Manager Gowrisankar, and students took part.
