TIRUPATI: As part of its South India-level conclave, the Kolkata-based All India Council for Mass Education and Development (AICMED) felicitated social activists who rendered their bit for the community at large in their respective areas and capacities. The two-day event was organised by AICMED, in association with the SV University's Department of Adult and Continuing Education and a voluntary organisation, Rural Institute for Social Education (RISE). P. Subramanyam, special secretary to the Chief Minister, was felicitated in the `administrator' category, taking into account the service rendered to the cause of integrated rural development such as anti-poverty programmes, micro-finance, social mobilization, women empowerment etc. Yakasiri Subba Rao, a social worker of Nellore, who has worked extensively on Yanadi development, was felicitated under the `social activist' category for his contribution to tribal empowerment and uplift of masses. Similarly, M.R.V. Santhamma, the Rayalaseema regional organiser for Women and Child Welfare was felicitated under `people's representative' category and G.N. Reddi, president of Indian Rural Reconstruction Movement (IRRM), Kuppam under `social scientist' category.
