Women empowerment through magic

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: A magic programme aimed at reaching out to women with the message of empowerment was launched at the Community Health Centre here on Friday.

Deputy District Medical Officer P. Narayanan inaugurated the programme titled Janani Suraksha Yojna.

It was sponsored by the Central Health and Family Welfare Department.

K. Salim, Community Health Centre superintendent, presided over the function.

Young magician Sherif Mayika held a large group of women spellbound through his performance, which he used to send across the message of women empowerment.

Ensuring health

Through magic, Sherif taught them how to ensure the health of poor women and reduce infant mortality rate among the poor.

Sherif said he would present the show at the District Hospital, Manjeri, and at taluk hospitals in places such as Perinthalmanna, Tirur, Nilambur and Tirurangadi.
