HYDERABAD : The BJP will extend support if a bill on creation of Telangana was introduced in Parliament by the UPA Government. BJP national secretary Bandaru Dattatreya told a press conference here on Friday that the party was committed to the creation of smaller States for administrative convenience. Referring to TRS leader and Union Minister A. Narendra's visit to the BJP office here, he said "it is a good development. They are seeking the help of BJP." Ruling out the question of a tie-up with the TRS in the local body elections as long as it remained in the UPA, he said the TRS had failed to lobby support for Telangana at national level. He urged the party leaders to change their approach. Mr. Dattatreya stated that intellectuals and retired chief engineers from Telangana would meet BJP president Rajnath Singh here on Saturday. He claimed that the Government was "isolated" on GO 72 and the high-handed behaviour of policemen on the Osmania University campus. He demanded immediate scrapping of GO 72, repatriation of 20,000 employees, as recommended by the Girglani Commission, and prosecution of officials who had violated the implementation GO 610. He demanded immediate placing of the files on tenders for the Sripadasagar Project before the Speaker.
