NELLORE : After chess player K. Venkatesh, it is now the turn of D. Leelavathi of Podalakuru to seek euthanasia. Leelavathi, who has been suffering from Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), a chronic lung disorder, is now planning to seek mercy killing. "We have spent lakhs of rupees to cure her lung disorder, but of no use. And my wife now wants to die," says her husband D. Surendra Babu. Babu, who is running a mess, says that his family needed at least financial assistance from the Government. "I spent more than Rs. 7 lakhs in the last four years and have nothing to spend now on my wife's health," he said on Thursday. According to his relatives, Mr. Babu is planning to meet either the District Collector or local MLA to put forth his case. Local doctors, however, are of the view that chances of Leelavathi recovering from the ILD are very remote. Officials, however, said that Leelavathi's plea for euthanasia would be rejected for a variety of reasons.
