HYDERABAD: The executive heads of Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTM-UDA) and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) were severely reprimanded by Justice L. Narasimha Reddy of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday for their total disregard for the rule of law while implementing the Bandar Road widening programme. UDA Vice-Chairman Durga Das and VMC Commissioner Natrajan Gulzar who appeared before the court were apologetic while explaining their conduct vis-à-vis the effected persons. Some of the petitioners filed cases in January 2006 alleging that the officers were demolishing the structures in the name of road widening. The High Court directed the officers to follow the rule of law. The present case was filed complaining that the officers resorted to demolition without any notice. The officers tried to explain that the notices were, in fact, issued on earlier occasion The Judge expressed displeasure at the attitude of the officers and recalled that in the earlier phase of road widening, the officers holding the same posts were called to the court. The case was adjourned to March 24.
