Staff Reporter

Says it is violative of Tamil Nadu Open Places Act of 1959

Coimbatore : Painting or placing of graffiti for election campaign in places that fall in public view, even with the consent of the owner of the premises, will be violation of the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act of 1959, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said here on Friday.

With the Special Chief Electoral Officer, C.P. Singh, he was talking to newspersons after reviewing the poll preparedness with the Collectors of seven districts in western Tamil Nadu. He said Section 2 (iii) of the Act made it clear.

The parties and candidates would be advised and if they failed to heed, the official machinery would remove the same, besides bringing it under the expenditure account of the party or andidate, as the case may be.

For the benefit of voters who got enrolled after the publication of electoral rolls, a second round of photographing would begin from April 10.

During this round, duplicate ID cards for misplaced cards could be availed by paying Rs. 15 and the replacement of damaged, mutilated cards would be done free of cost.

Those left out could avail themselves of the last opportunity to seek inclusion of names by filing form number six, he said. But, it would be only for genuine individual cases but nothing on a large scale.
