Two filmmakers come together to launch `P365'

Sudhish Kamath

CHENNAI: When the director of Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu met the director of Tirupati at Cinema Paradiso on Sunday morning, it was a meeting of different sensibilities. One admired and followed the Hollywood system of scientific filmmaking while the other believed in not watching English films at all lest they influence him. One filmmaker made films adored by the classes and the other movies worshipped by the masses.

Gautam Menon of Minnale and Kaakha Kaakha fame and Perarasu who made Thirupaachi and Sivakasi, along with actress Shalini inaugurated the `P365' initiative of the DVD rentals shop releasing Derailed, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Chicken Little respectively.

Promotional scheme

`Project 365' is the promotional scheme of the DVD rental service to release one new title every day of the year.

Though a member of the Hyderabad Cinema Paradiso, Gautam usually likes to buy his own DVDs while travelling out of the country.

The filmmakers spent a few minutes talking to scribes about their April 14 releases.

Selvaraghavan who was away attending a meeting could not make it to the launch. Actor Richard, partner of Cinema Paradiso, along with Santhosh, briefed the visitors on the enviable collection of films at the store, sharing trivia and recommending titles.
