Planetarium to be closed on Monday

The B.M. Birla Planetarium at the Periyar Science and Technology Centre Campus will remain closed on Monday for general maintenance. The permanent science exhibition at the Periyar Science and Technology Centre will function as usual.

Blood donation camp

The Blood Bank of Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu branch, conducted a blood donation camp on Tuesday at the Chennai Container Terminal Private Limited at Royapuram.

New Syndicate Bank branch opened

Syndicate Bank opened its 35th branch in the city at 4/749, Mogappair Main Road, Mogappair West, on Thursday. D. Viswanathan, vice-chancellor, Anna University, inaugurated it.

School annual day

The KPCVSS School celebrated its annual day on Monday. The annual report of the Vallabh Cultural Academy was also presented. Gopika Varma, Mohiniattam exponent, presided and urged students to pursue the arts even after tutelage at the Academy was over.

Lions district governor elected

P. Ramesh Babu and S. Nagin have been elected as District Governor and Vice District Governor for Lions International District 324 A6 for the year 2006-2007 at the Convention concluded recently at the Chennai Trade Centre.

English boot Camp

The Princeton Review, Chennai, is organising an English Boot Camp on March 26 at its Chennai centre. The camp is intended for students preparing for the GMAT and GRE exams. It would help refresh basic English grammar, provide a session on vocabulary building and focus on improving reading and writing skills. Seats are available on a first-come first-serve basis. Valedictory at college

The valediction of the activities of the academic year of 2005-2006 was held on Friday at GSS Jain College. Anne Mary Fernandez, registrar, University of Madras, presided and released the college magazine for the year.

Convocation

The graduation day of Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Thandalam, was held on March 13, with the Anna University Vice-Chancellor, D. Viswanathan, delivering the convocation address. Earlier the institution celebrated College Day on March 11 in which T. Suresh, head of human resources of TAFE, participated. He said students while graduating should have the capacity to foster an attitude to transform skills to jobs. College chairperson Thangam Meganathan presided over the function.

Vidwat Sadas

Under the auspices of the Melpakkam Andal Ammal Duraiswamy Iyengar Trust a `vidwat sadas' on Vedanta Desika's Hamasa Sandesa will be conducted at the Vedanta Desikar Temple, Mylapore, on Sunday (11 a.m).
