CPI (M), DMK close to completing constituency identification

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Communist Party of India (Marxist) have completed the process of identifying constituencies that the CPI (M) will contest as part of the Democratic Progressive Alliance.

"The process has almost been completed. There is just one seat that remains to be finalised. This can be done only after another ally gives us the list," a DMK leader said.

The DMK and the CPI (M) are expected to sign an agreement on the constituencies on Saturday.

DPA leaders said that the process was proceeding smoothly because the overlap was not too many so far. The Congress is expected to give its list on Saturday and a final agreement is possible "soon", leaders of both parties said.

Karat to meet Karunanidhi

With all aspects of the seat sharing sorted out, the CPI (M) general secretary, Prakash Karat will meet the DMK president M. Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence on Saturday.

"We will discuss how effectively we can conduct the election campaign in Tamil Nadu," Mr. Karat said in Perambur. "I am confident that just like the Lok Sabha elections, we will be able to go to the people united, mobilise them and ensure victory," he said.
