Parents told to involve children in sports

Government keen on providing infrastructure in every district: official

VIJAYAWADA: Parents should actively involve themselves in sports, besides inculcating the habit of pursuing some sporting activity in their children to develop a healthy society, Regional Deputy Director of District Sports Authority Chinnaiah said here on Friday.

Participating in the inaugural function of the games and sports competitions organised for the Labour Department at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium, Mr. Chinnaiah said that the Government was keen on providing sporting infrastructure in every district and asked parents to make use of the facilities to the optimum.

Latent talent

Assistant Labour Commissioner J. Nageswara Rao said that the sports and cultural competitions were organised every year to encourage the inherent talent in the employees. He promised to use his good offices for construction of an auditorium for staging cultural events, as suggested by some elders.

" I will discuss the issue with the Labour Commissioner and put forward a proposal to the Labour Minister," he said. He said the number of teams participating in the meet was increasing which was an encouraging sign.

Employees' State Insurance joint director Parthasarathy explained various schemes offered by the ESI Department for benefit of employees and advised them to make use of them.

Teams from Circar Jute Mills, Ushodaya Enterprises, VTPS, Madras Cements Limited, Hyderabad Industries, Andhra Pradesh Heavy Machinery Engineering Limited, APSRTC and Shop Employees Union are taking part in volleyball, kabaddi, ball badminton and tennikoit. The event would conclude on Saturday.
