HYDERABAD: One more maternity hospital in the city is facing prosecution for failing to comply with the provisions of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act. Matrika Maternity Hospital, run by Dr. Kalpana at Somajiguda, had its ultrasound scan machine seized by a team led by District Collector Arvind Kumar during an inspection on Friday. The hospital has been issued a show-cause notice for violating the PNDT Act. According to officials, the Collector, on inspection of the records at Matrika Hospital, found that the hospital was not maintaining stipulated details of patients undergoing scans. It was also not obtaining consent forms or referral letters for the scans. Interestingly, most of the patients were pregnant women from Raichur in Karnataka, and moreover, referred by a certain genetic institute in Begumpet. The Collector also directed the district health and medical officer to serve a notice on Trivitron, a private firm, for supplying the scan machine to Matrika Hospital without mentioning its registration number on their invoice.
