Commodity prices

The following were the prices (per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Friday, according to Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: Groundnut oil - Rs. 48.50, palmolein oil - Rs. 41, sunflower oil - Rs. 47, tamarind (flower variety) - Rs. 26 to 32, tamarind (karipuli variety) - Rs. 42 to 48, chillies - Rs. 25 to 30, rice (2716) - Rs. 13, rice (super fine) - Rs. 15, rice (sona masoori) - Rs. 16 to 17, rice (samba masoori) - Rs. 15 to 16, black gram - Rs. 35.75 and red gram - Rs. 23 to 27.60.

All-India Demands Day

Insurance employees on Friday observed All-India Demands Day. Sporting black badges, they took out a protest rally during lunch hour on Eluru Road. All-India Insurance Employees' Association city branch secretary Ch. Kaladhar said the strength of the LIC staff was not proportionate to the increasing workload.

Statue to be shifted

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has decided to shift the statue of Katragadda Madhusudana Rao by a few feet to ease traffic flow at the Madhu Chowk. The Lanco group has agreed to construct a pedestal for the statue.

Coconut saplings

Coconut saplings will be distributed free of cost in Madhuranagar region of 45th division on Saturday morning. The distribution programme would be conducted under the aegis of VGTMUDA.
