Bike driven by teenager hits road divider, killing pillion rider

  • Rider of bike turns back to speak to friend, hits a median
  • Impact of collision throws off victim, who breaks his head and dies

HYDERABAD: A tenth standard student died in a road accident in the city on Friday.

While J. Ashirvadam, 15, died on the spot, two of his classmates Kiran, 15 and Eliya Paul, 16, sustained serious injuries when the motorcycle they were travelling on hit a divider on the Hayathnagar main road.

All the three were rushing to their Words and Deeds School to attend tuition classes for the ensuing annual exams around 5 a.m. when the accident occurred. Kiran was driving the bike, while the other two were riding pillion.

Apparently, the three friends had stayed awake throughout Thursday night preparing for the exams and were hence feeling drowsy while on the way to school. "After crossing Hayathnagar RTC depot junction, Kiran turned his head and asked Ashirvadam to wake up since we were reaching the school. In the process, he lost control and hit the bike against the median on the left," he recalled.

The collision impact threw Ashirvadam onto the other side of the divider. He broke his head on hitting the road. Death was instant. The Hayathnagar police booked a case under Section 304-A (rash and negligent act causing death) of IPC against Kiran. He had no driving license.

    Eyes donated

Meanwhile, Ashirvadam's father J. Jeevaratnam gave his consent when police asked him if he would be interested in donating his son's eyes. "I realised that donation of eyes meant giving new life to someone," he told reporters.

    Girl killed

A three-year-old girl Kaveri was crushed to death while her parents -Madiletti and his wife Gangamma, sustained serious injuries when a lorry rammed into their roadside shed in the early hours of Friday at Madhapur.
