BANGALORE: For the benefit of students taking the Common Entrance Test (CET) this year, the Government has decided to telecast programmes on the subjects of study on "Chandana" channel of Doordarshan from the second week of April.

This was stated on Friday by Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy after releasing the brochure and application form for CET-2006 for admission to professional courses.

Students in urban centres attend coaching classes and are better placed to write the CET. But rural students need special coaching. To meet this need, the Government has decided to hold tutorial through Doordarshan. The channel will telecast 60 lessons at the rate of 15 lessons for each subject. The duration of each programme will be 30 minutes. The date and timing of the programme will be announced soon, he said.

The CET Cell has decided to introduce bar coding this year to prevent malpractices during the examination.

Mr. Shankaramurthy said the CET will be held only for admission to government and aided professional colleges. There are four medical, one dental and 12 engineering colleges run by the Government or aided by it.

Admission to medical seats will be held as per the Medical Council of India guidelines. Keeping in view the court judgements, the Government will present a Bill on admission and the seat matrix in the Legislature, he said. The CET will begin on May 9. As many as 4,000 engineering seats, 450 medical seats and 60 dental seats in various colleges will be available for students appearing for the test this year.

Kannada language test will be held on May 11 while the aptitude test for admission to architecture courses will be held on May 12. The last date for submission of filled application forms to the principals of schools and colleges is March 28. The last date for heads of institutions to forward these applications to the CET Cell and for students living outside the State (Horanadu, Gadnadu and other Karnataka category students) to send applications by Speed Post is March 31. The CET Cell will send the admission tickets to all students by April 26.

The CET 2006 key answers will be published on May 22.

The last date for submission of objections is May 26. The CET 2006 results along with key answers will be published on June 3. The seat selection process will begin on June 26.

    Rank list

Two sets of rank lists will be prepared for medical and dental courses this year.

One rank list for medical and dental courses will be for candidates with 50 per cent marks taken together in Physics-Chemistry-Biology in the qualifying examination and 50 per cent in these subjects in the CET. It will be 40 per cent for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other special category students.

The second rank list for medical and dental courses will be prepared on the basis of marks secured in the three subjects taken together only in the CET. Candidates with less than 50 per cent marks (40 per cent for special categories) taken together in PCB in CET will not be given any rank.

This rule will apply to rank list for Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy courses.

The rank list for engineering and technology courses will be prepared for candidates with 45 per cent marks taken together in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination, irrespective of marks scored in the CET. It will be 40 per cent for reserved categories.
