Man detained near PM's residence

NEW DELHI: A young man was detained by the Delhi police after he was found loitering around Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Race Course Road residence under suspicious circumstances on Friday evening. He was later identified as Ashok Kumar, a resident of Bihar. A detonator-like device was allegedly recovered from him. He is being interrogated by officers of various Intelligence agencies and the police.

One stabbed in clash

NEW DELHI: One person was stabbed in a fight that broke out between two groups outside Dyal Singh College on Lodhi Road here on Friday evening.

According to the police, the incident took place around 6 p.m. "There was a clash between some outsiders and students at the traffic intersection near the college. One person was stabbed but his injuries were not serious. The reason behind the clash is not yet clear," said a senior police officer.

The injured was taken to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences where his condition was reported to be stable.

The Lodhi Colony police have registered a case and are trying to ascertain the reason behind the clash.

Held for printing fake degrees, marksheets

NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested by the Central Delhi police for allegedly printing and selling fake marksheets and degrees of various universities.

Following a tip-off, the police had sent a decoy to strike a deal with the suspect a couple of days ago near Zakir Hussain College. The deal was finalised at Rs. 2,000 for degrees of some reputed universities, including Jamia Millia Islamia.

On Thursday, the suspect, later identified as Amjad Ali, a resident of Jamia Nagar in South Delhi, delivered the fake degrees and was arrested by the waiting police team. At his instance, the police conducted a raid at the Garhi residence of his associate, Ankur Kochhar, and arrested him.

A large number of fake marksheets and degrees, purportedly issued by universities like Aligarh Muslim University, Delhi University, Annamalai University and Jamia Millia Islamia University were recovered from his hideout. The police also seized two computers, two scanners and CDs containing the proforma of the documents from the hideout. Further investigations in the case are on.

Judev seeks anticipatory bail

NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Singh Judev, who was caught on video camera allegedly demanding and accepting bribe in 2003, on Friday moved a Special court for CBI cases here seeking anticipatory bail in the case.

Taking his bail application on record, Special Judge Indermeet Kaur Kochhar issued a notice to CBI asking it to file a reply to Judev's bail application by March 18.

The Judge also issued a warrant for production of Amit Jogi, son of former Chhattishgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi. Amit Jogi is at present lodged in a jail in the State in connection with a murder case.

The Judge directed the Jail Superintendent concerned to produce Amit Jogi in the court on March 18.

The Judge fixed March 18 as the date for taking cognisance of the charge-sheet in the case.
