BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police have been receiving requests from people seeking permission to see the jewellery recovered from the police officers, whose premises were raided recently. The requests are coming from people who had given complaints to the police that their houses had been burgled. On Friday, a 65-year-old former State hockey player, J. Ramdas of Indiranagar, submitted to the Lokayukta that he had lost jewellery, cash, and other articles in a burglary in August 2002. The burglary took place when he had gone to Tirupati. A complaint of theft of Rs. 6-lakh worth articles was registered with Jeevan Bima Nagar police station, where Mir Arif Ali, one of the five police officers arrested by the Lokayukta police, was the inspector. Mr. Ramdas said that during his several visits to the police station, Ali said that though the police had taken into custody several people they had not caught the person involved in the incident. Learning about the recovery of 2 kg gold ornaments from Ali's bank locker and house, Mr. Ramdas had come to the Lokayukta police with a request to see whether any of the jewellery recovered from Ali belonged to him. B.J. Prakash, owner of Jaimatha Combines, said he had lost cash and jewellery, together worth Rs. 10 lakhs, in a burglary in his house in Yelahanka police station limits on May 7, 2004. As the case was still pending, he wanted to see whether there was any of his ornaments among those that had been recovered from the five police officers. The Lokayukta police have also been receiving telephone calls charging some other police officers in the city of possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
