Elephant returned to owner

Staff Reporter

Animal welfare organisations had protested against the court order

Bangalore: An elephant which was till a few days ago in the herbivore safari of the Bannerghatta National Park has been taken away by its original owner who hails from Madurai, despite protests from animal welfare organisations.

On Thursday, some animal welfare activists tried to stop the truck carrying the elephant. But armed with a court order from the Hoskote Judicial Magistrate ordering release of the elephant, the owner threatened action against them if they tried to prevent the animal from being taken away. The owner of the elephant is reportedly an engineer who wants it sent to his hometown.
