Complain against graffiti, Tambaram residents told

Staff Reporter

"Parties were briefed about dos and don'ts"

  • Approach district administration, police stations to lodge protest
  • Officials of local bodies to remove graffiti from walls of public buildings
  • Staff, equipment shortage for issuing EPICs will be looked into

TAMBARAM: Kancheepuram Collector R. Venkatesan on Saturday said residents could approach the district administration, local bodies or police stations to lodge complaints about political parties defacing public property with poll graffiti. He said political parties were clearly briefed on the dos and don'ts of painting advertisements on walls and hanging festoons.

After the model code of conduct came into being, many political parties came forward to remove such graffiti. Referring to graffiti on walls of public buildings, the Collector said it was the responsibility of the respective local bodies to clear it.

He said ever since the authorities started distributing Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) in Kancheepuram, 2.5 lakh cards were issued so far. Around nine lakh voters in Tambaram and Alandur constituencies are still to get these cards. Problems pertaining to shortage of staff and equipment in issuing EPICs would be looked into and arrangements made to step up allotment, Mr. Venkatesan added.

Mr. Venkatesan visited a designated photo location at Pallavaram, where an EPIC programme was in session.
