West Bengal, Railways in lead

VYTHIRI (Wynad): Former champion Indian Railways, with 179 victory points, led Group `A' after nine rounds in the T.P. Khosla Trophy team of four duplicate event in the 37th Summer National bridge championship at the Vythiri Resorts here on Sunday.

Uttar Pradesh (166 vps) was in the second spot, while defending champion Tamil Nadu `A' and Andhra Pradesh `B' (154 vps) shared the third place in the qualifying league, which is a 15-round affair.

In Group `B', West Bengal `A' (184 vps), Maharashtra `A' (167) and Orissa (155), in that order, held the top three positions.

The top four teams from each group progress to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinal line-up will be clear by Monday night.

Team of four duplicate (positions after 9 rounds): Group A: Indian Railways (179 vps), 2. U. P (166), 3. A.P `B' & T.N `A' (154), 5. Karnataka (151).

Group B: 1. West Bengal `A' (184), 2. Maharashtra `A' (167), 3. Orissa (155), 4. Chhattisgarh (149), 5. Petroleum SPB (144). — Principal Correspondent
