JAIPUR: Rajasthan Food Minister Kirorilal Meena has called upon the presiding officers of Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums to simplify the procedure of disposal of cases to ensure easy and fast delivery of justice to consumers. He said the consumer courts should be kept free from legal technicalities. Mr. Meena, addressing a workshop on "Consumer protection laws and rural consumers'' here on Saturday, pointed out that 90 per cent of complaints in the consumer courts were filed by the consumers in urban areas. He said the voluntary organisations should generate awareness about consumers' rights in villages. Mr. Meena said the Consumer Welfare Fund established in the State was the biggest in the country with Rs. 1.50 crores being deposited in it every month. The Food Department has also established consumer clubs in 940 secondary and senior secondary schools to educate the students about the consumer laws. The Minister said the State Government had launched a legal aid scheme recently to assist the poor consumers in fighting cases in the consumer courts. A poster titled "Consumer beware'' and a booklet on consumers' rights were released on the occasion.
