`Congress Government's decision aimed at dividing BCs'

  • TDP to conduct districtwise BC cell meetings and rallies all over the State
  • Highlights plight of students studying in BC hostels
  • Compensation sought for handloom workers, artisans

Rajahmundry: The Telugu Desam Party's Backward Classes Cell has given a call to all the BCs in the State to fight against the Government decision to implement creamy layer system for BCs. The TDP announced that it will fight with the Government till it withdraws the decision to implement the new system.

Addressing public meeting at the Subrahmanyam Grounds here on Sunday and press conference prior to the meeting, the TDP State BC Cell president Rumandla Ramachandraiah said that the Congress Government had taken this decision to divide BCs as they were with the TDP from the beginning. He said that the Government is showing a stepmotherly attitude towards BCs as the creamy layer system was not introduced in case of minorities, SCs and STs.

    Districtwise meetings

He recalled that Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy had promised during the last elections that they would strive hard for the overall development of BC communities in the State, but in reality the Congress Government is taking decisions against the interests of the BCs. He said that the TDP is conducting district wise BC cell meetings and rallies all over the State to pressure the Government to withdraw the creamy layer system.

He announced that they were also planning to take up `Chalo Hyderabad' programme in this regard.

He said that the plight of students studying in BC hostels is miserable and the Government stopped releasing scholarships for BC students.

He demanded the Government to give compensation to handloom workers and artisans in case of their suicide deaths on a par with agricultural labourers. He said that the TDP will appoint two incharges for each district to look into the issues related to the weaving community.
