CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch arrested three persons on Saturday for running an unauthorised travel agency and cheating people of Rs. 4 lakh. They have been remanded to custody. The two accused, Kalaivanan and Rasi, owned Thobha Enterprises at Sembudoss Street in Mannadi. According to police, they operated a travel agency from the premises and sometimes sent people abroad with promises of employment. They were assisted by Razia Begum, who contacted those who aspired to go abroad, the job aspirants, procured photocopies of their passports and in turn took money from them. All these came to light when the officials raided the office premises. "In some cases, people were sent. But most of them were cheated, as this agency was not registered with the Protectorate of Immigrants office," said a CCB official. The accused have been arrested for cheating and for violating immigration laws. Officials said they were in the process of rounding up those running travel agencies in the city and promising overseas employment without authorisation from the Protectorate.
