BANGALORE: A traffic police sub-inspector attached to the Shivajinagar Traffic Police Station died of injuries in a hospital after being run over by a vehicle when he tried to stop it at BRV Junction at midnight on Saturday. The police gave the name of the officer as Arun Kumar (54). The incident occurred when Arun Kumar, another traffic sub-inspector Ganesh and two constables, were conducting a check against drunken driving. When they asked the driver of the vehicle to lower the vehicle's side glass, he did not and tried to drive away. However, Arun Kumar went in front of the vehicle in a bid to stop it but was run over. The police said the registration number of the vehicle could not be noted down as they were attending to Arun Kumar. Arun Kumar hailed from Kanakapura taluk. He is survived by his wife and two children. He joined the department as a constable.
Action
Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has directed the City Police Commissioner to take action against reckless driving. He was speaking to presspersons after meeting the family of Arun Kumar on Sunday. The police will also book drivers and riders of motor vehicles causing sound pollution, he said. Health Minister R. Ashok and Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh were present.
