Hoax callers nabbed

NEW DELHI: Three young men have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for allegedly making hoax calls claiming that bombs have been planted in the discotheque of a certain five-star hotel.

According to the police, the manager of the discotheque had lodged a complaint with the Special Cell saying that some men who were earlier denied entry were repeatedly making hoax calls to the Police Control Room about explosives being planted in the discotheque.

The police said the accused, later identified as Vinesh Tomar, Arjun Shah and Shivraj Singh, had made one hoax call on March 1, six calls on March 2, another three on March 7, one on March 8 and two more on March 9.

Since, giving false information to the public servant was not a cognisable offence, the police sought permission from the court to initiate a formal inquiry against the accused. The court granted the permission on Saturday following which the accused were arrested. They were traced with the help of mobile phone numbers that were recorded in the PCR logbook.

Vinesh, a resident of Neb Sarai, was using a number registered in his father's name, while Arjun and Shivraj, both residents of Greater Kailash-I, used their phones to make the calls. The police have recovered two mobile phones from the accused. Further investigations in the case are on.

According to the police, 50-year-old Kalua and his wife Kalsuma, both residents of Loni in Ghaziabad, were arrested at Birjpuri in Gokulpuri on Saturday. They were named in a case of harassment for dowry in 2004. Subsequently, they were declared proclaimed offenders.

Mahila Congress to lobby for quota Bill

New Delhi: The All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) on Sunday demanded implementation of the Panchmarhi resolution of the party, which had mandated 33 per cent reservation for women at all levels in the party organisation, to it's fullest extent.

The women's wing of the party decided to strongly lobby for the passage of Women's Reservation Bill even as many UPA partners and Opposition parties are creating hurdles in its way, a release said.

At the end of it's two-day meeting presided over by Rita Bahuguna Joshi, the National Council of AIMC adopted a 14-point resolution condemning the non-Congress-ruled State Governments which are showcasing all the Central Government schemes as their own and resolved to launch an awareness campaign to counter them.
