EXQUISITE DESIGNS: Terracotta from rural Andhra Pradesh on sale in Raichur.
Raichur: An exhibition-cum-sale of terracotta products on Station Road near Gulshan Garden here has been drawing the attention of those looking to add some aesthetic value to their houses. The exhibition has on offer a range of terracotta products including flower vases, urns, pots, jugs, decorated elephants, horses and bullocks. Seshachalam and his family members, who are traditional terracotta craftsmen in Madanapalli of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, have brought these unique products here. People, particularly housewives, looking to decorate their houses can get the best bargain at the exhibition, though the products seem to be priced on the expensive side. The price of products ranges between Rs. 75 to Rs. 500 depending on size and work. According to Seshachalam, they are rural artisans and have been engaged in moulding terracotta products since the past few decades. The whole family works together, he says. Some of the family members also visit various places in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu where their products are in demand. They even receive bulk orders for exclusive products from traders in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jammu and Kashmir who export the products to various countries, he says.
