Canara Bank enters semifinals

BANGALORE: Canara Bank topped Pool A of the Travancore Cup hockey tournament after its 5-2 victory over Indian Telephone Industries here on Monday. Canara Bank and Maratha Light Infantry progressed into the semifinal knockout phase of the tournament.

The architects of Canara Bank's win were Rama Rao, who scored off a penalty corner in the 14th minute, Krishna Reddy (18th), Dinesh (25th), Vikramkanth (29th) and Ronald Kiran (56th). Ponappa (26th) and Pradeep (50th) scored for ITI.

Earlier, Dhanraj Ballal Hockey Academy thrashed Reserve Bank of India 5-0 with Saad Ahmed (2nd), Naresh (15th), Rajan (21st), Mario Kasi (41st) and Hari Govind (44th) scoring the goals.

SAI slammed six goals past a hapless Central Excise to win comfortably in another encounter. Raghunath scored a treble, all off penalty corners (17th, 39th and 53rd), Ravi Kumar had a double (24th and 33rd) and Varun Chinappa (55th) slotted home the last goal. — Special Correspondent
