CHENNAI: "Diabetes is like a pet tiger. It won't leave you. So take care of it. And keep it under control," said M. Karpagavinayagam, Judge, Madras High Court. He was releasing Yoga Exnora VCDs on prevention and control of diabetes in the city on Friday. "Diabetics are lucky because they know the importance of health and discipline," he said. V. Mohan, Chairman and Chief Diabetologist, Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre, said that yoga had been effective in controlling diabetes when combined with simple exercises such as walking, swimming and jogging. "If you combine walking and yoga, it is tremendously beneficial." K.G. Russia, former Registrar of MGR Medical University, said: "Spending Rs. 500 at the gym is western culture. We don't know what we have in our own culture. Yoga will be a revolution in the coming years." Dr. A. Paneerselvam said it was commendable that S. Hema, an allopathic doctor, had demonstrated the power of yoga and proved its effectiveness scientifically.
