Over 90 per cent of voters will have EPIC: Collector

Heavy turnout at designated photo locations; 20 per cent covered

ERODE: The turnout at designated photo locations for Electors' Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is high, said Collector and Election Officer, D. Karthikeyan. Over 60 per cent of the voters in the district already had EPIC, of whom a few had misplaced it.

20 days

The photographing had been going on in the district for the last 20 days, and would continue till April 15. So far, 20 per cent of the voters who did not have an EPIC were photographed and provided with the cards. Over 90 per cent of the voters would be provided with the card before the deadline, the Collector said.

There were a few cases, where despite the submission of Form 6 in time, and subsequent verifications, names of voters did not find a place in the list.

Residence shifted

These voters could appeal to respective Revenue Divisional Officers on or before April 6.

An employee with a reputed private firm had shifted his residence to Sakthinagar in 2000, and obtained a family card with change in address. He also submitted forms for deletion of his name and his wife's from the old area and inclusion in the new locality. Though their names were deleted from the new area, the inclusion was yet to happen. Similarly, the name of a Government official was also missing in the voters' list.

Caution

These voters too should appeal to the Revenue Divisional Officer. Any violation of election code of conduct by political parties and Government employees would be dealt with severely, the Collector cautioned.
