Mystery shrouds death of driver

Staff Correspondent

Ramesh from Mysore, police suspect, could have died of heart attack after a leak of carbon monoxide from an LPG geyser in the bathroom

Madikeri: R. Ramesh (40), a driver working with a travel agency, died under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday morning while he was having a bath at a house in which he was staying here since last night, the police said.

According to the police, Ramesh was visiting Kodagu from Mysore frequently as the agency with which he worked had a travel desk with a leading holiday resort here.

He and a few other colleagues were staying in the house, near the Gowda Samaj, the police said.

The police said his friends became suspicious when Ramesh did not come out of the bathroom even after 20 minutes.

They were aghast to see Ramesh who had collapsed and was gasping for breath, on breaking the door open, the police said.

Ramesh's colleagues tried shifting him to a nearby private hospital but he died on the way, according to the police.

Cardiac arrest is suspected to be the reason for the death.

Carbon Monoxide gas that could have collected inside the bathroom (after a leak from an LPG geyser) may have hastened the heart attack, the police suspected.

The victim's wife, mother and son arrived here in the afternoon to receive the body.

Post-mortem report is awaited.
