Bangalore: Women are entering more professions than ever before and growing to be business leaders in their own right. In the information technology and information technology-enabled services sectors, they will soon constitute 45 to 50 per cent of the workforce.

Against this background, the Karnataka Women Graduates' Foundation has been registered with Bangalore as its headquarters. The issues facing both working women and those opting to be home-makers will be addressed by the foundation, according to G. Leelavathi, its President. Legal help and counselling will be provided for women facing harassment or discrimination at the workplace and for those fearing security while working on night shifts, she said.

Wherever work-related problems arise, there will be efforts to find a settlement between employers and women employees since legal remedy itself may be too delayed and expensive.

Apart from offering career guidance and self-employment training, the foundation will try to remove any gender bias in recruitment and promotions, she said. Since young women from poor background may not be able to acquire job skills on their own, they will be provided training in language fluency, computer skills and office management, she said.

studies on their own. Stress will be laid on their healthcare, she said.
