BANGALORE: Professional colleges making a gesture of social responsibility is not very common. The P.E.S. Institute of Technology here made news a few years ago when it adopted a few Corporation schools near its campus, and planted saplings along the Ring Road.
Two-month programme
The People's Education Society (PES) group of institutions has done it again. It's PES Polytechnic has organised a two-month free training programme on two-wheeler repair and maintenance. This has been arranged by its Department of Automobiles. Ramachandra Gowda, Minister for Science and Technology, was launched the programme on the polytechnic campus on Tuesday. The training will help those from poor background, he said.
Uplift of the poor
"Through such programmes, we can bring neglected sections to the mainstream. It is our responsibility to uplift them socially and economically," he said. He called upon the PES management to open a science and technology park on its campus to inspire the younger generation. It will definitely help the youth develop skills in scientific analysis and experimental knowledge, he said. M.R. Doreswamy, PES Institutions founder, remembered late scientist, Rajaramanna, for the valuable suggestions he offered on starting a free training programme for school dropouts at PESIT five years ago. More than 45 dropouts were enrolled in the programme, he saidStudents of PES Polytechnic displayed automobile project models on the occasion.
