Collectors designated as election officers

They will coordinate work for revision of electoral rolls, act as appellate authorities

Pondicherry: The Election Commission of India has designated the District Collectors of Pondicherry and Karaikal to be the District Election Officers for the respective districts. Pondicherry district comprises Pondicherry, Mahe and Yanam regions while Karaikal is a separate district.

The Joint Chief Electoral Officer of Pondicherry P. T. Rudra Goud said in a release here on Monday that this had been done by the EC in consultation with the Pondicherry Government and under provisions of the Representation of People Act 1950.

The District Election Officers will coordinate and supervise all works in connection with preparation and revision of electoral rolls and would also be appellate authority for the decisions of Electoral Registration Officers under the Registration of Electors Rules 1960.
