V. Murugan, 34, who hails from Kollam, is on a reverse walking campaign to highlight the need to ban pan masala. The crusader against pan masala started walking reverse from Kasaragod on February 20 carrying a banner that lists the health hazards of consuming pan masala. He is now on his reverse march to the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram. This, Mr. Murugan says, is his way of protest against the "efforts to reverse the achievements of the State in the health care sector." Mr. Murugan plans to stage a dharna in front of the Secretariat for three days, submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and send a mass petition to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. He distributes campaign pamphlets during his march. His novel campaign draws crowds wherever he visits.
