ANANTAPUR: An uneasy atmosphere prevailed for the third day on Tuesday at the sub-jail at Reddypalli near here, where 207 undertrials are lodged. Warders have refused to open the barracks, where the accused in Paritala Ravindra case have been lodged, since Sunday due to latter's alleged harassment of the jail staff. Deputy Inspector General of Jails from Kadapa B. Samuel Johnson visited the sub-jail on Tuesday. He had an hour-long meeting with the jail staff including Superintendent of the jail Fazal Haque.
Followers caught
Sources stated that the jail staff had given him details of the incidents, particularly the high-handed behaviour of the accused in the Paritala case since they were lodged in the jail from January last year. On Sunday three followers of Suri were caught outside the jail, while attempting to throw `biryani' packets inside. The staff were said to have explained about the violent behaviour and gestures of the accused in Paritala case since Sunday afternoon demanding release of the three persons caught outside. They had also expressed fears about threat to their lives outside the jail. Further, they were learnt to have reiterated their demand of either transferring them to other jails or shifting of the accused in Paritala case to other jails. The DIG of Jails explained that steps would be taken to improve the atmosphere in the jail.
