HYDERBAD: V.V.S. Rao of Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday set aside the decision of the State Government permitting the conversion of a playground in Nandyal Town into a rythu bazaar. The Judge was allowing the writ petition filed by Secretary of Rama Krishna Vidyalaya. The petitioner contended that two acres of land in Srinivasa Cooperative Housing Society Colony had been earmarked as a playground in the master plan prepared in 1990 and the school children have been using it. The petitioner said the playground had been converted into rythu bazaar and the then Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and local MLA inaugurated it. The authorities informed the court that after the layout of the colony was approved the open area vests with the municipality and municipality could use it for any public purpose including rythu bazaar. The judge deprecated this attitude of the respondent authorities and while citing Supreme Court judgements made it clear that such conversion of a playground into a business area was not permissible.
