Anantapur officials finalise list of needs for 401 gram panchayats

ANANTAPUR: After four attempts to estimate the needs of people in 401 gram panchayats selected under phase one of Indiramma scheme, the district administration has finalised the list of needs on Tuesday. The needs required a financial commitment of about Rs. 563 crores. The 401 gram panchayats comprise 1,325 habitations.

The final list was prepared after a serious instruction from the State Government as to why the difference in needs had cropped up in the three earlier estimates.

As per the final estimates sent to the State Government, the need of additional old age pensions was put at 26,782 requiring Rs. 401.73 lakhs, 10,546 widow pensions needing Rs. 158.19 lakhs, 828 weavers' pensions (Rs.12.42 lakhs) and 5,476 disabled pensions (Rs.82.14 lakhs).

They were estimated at Rs. 125 per month. However, the financial requirement will increase further as the Centre has increased the old age and widow pensions to Rs. 200 and Rs. 400 per month, respectively.

Other major individual needs were identified as 91,565 houses involving a financial commitment of Rs. 22,891.25 lakhs, 24,957 house sites (Rs.623.92 lakhs), 1,23,776 individual sanitary latrines (Rs.3,403.84 lakhs) and 1,42,834 household power connections (Rs.1,677.10 lakhs).

The financial commitment required for supplementary nutrients to 28,933 girls, pregnant and lactating women was not mentioned.

The initial list of needs after conducting gram sabhas mentioned the requirement of 33,283 old age pensions and 1,20,852 houses.
