VINUKONDA: The market yard at Vinukonda was losing revenue to the tune of Rs.12 lakhs annually, due to the location of the animal market at a private place, said Vinukonda Market Yard Chairman Chintacheruvu Venki Reddy. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said that move to shift the market yard to its designated place was facing resistance from many quarters. "Some middlemen and their strong lobby was insisting on continuing the market at the present place," he said. The sellers of animals were affected, as the middlemen and their henchmen collect unauthorized amounts under the pretext of `rent'. This has become a flash point between the Congress leaders in the division. Lack of awareness among the earlier public representatives and the middlemen lobby ensured that the market functioned from the private premises for 25 years.
